Spring has begun; May started as a month of synergy and networking for the Foundation Enfant Jesus.
For me, this spring began on the road. I was in Chicago for the annual fundraising benefit with our partner agency, Adoption-Link, which dedicated this annual benefit to the children of Haiti. I suggest that everyone get on their website and check out their YouTube video which will bring tears to your eyes.
My week in Chicago unfolded with many events including guest speaking, bringing awareness to, and sharing with many people about, how Haiti’s situation 4 months after the earthquake is evolving. The outpouring of interest with what is happening in Haiti, and wanting to do good for the Haitian people, was very touching. So many people are curious, hoping for the much-needed advancements, and wishing that things would continue to improve for the people of Haiti. These general concerns are both valid and valuable. I felt that there are many individuals who continue to want to make a difference in the Haitian people’s lives. However, they remain concerned that the help be given directly to those who need it most.
Overall, the time which I spent in Chicago was targeted toward bringing as much awareness as possible to all of the people that I came in contact with. It was also very productive time that I was able to spend with the Adoption-Link staff, planning on how we will move forward with the many orphans that are now under the care of Crèche Enfant Jesus.
I was also able to do quite a bit of networking, which I believe will help us to be able to move forward with some of our new projects. There are also other projects which have been pending and are also very important in helping us to help the community through improved living which will benefit our entire region.
After my visit to Chicago, I continued on with my journey to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Here I spent 2 days with Pam Harrington and all of the international staff at Bethany Christian Services. I was very impressed with their organization as well as their missions and visions – many of which are very similar to that of FEJ. FEJ hopes to continue on with a long and productive relationship with BCS and our common goals.
I thank both Adoption-Link and Bethany Christian Services for their collaboration and partnership.
And OF COURSE!! -The highlight of my trip was seeing all the children from Crèche Enfant Jesus that have been adopted by Adoption-Link parents, it was so nice to see how well all of the children have blossomed and how they are so happy. Seeing the children in their new homes and families always brings me so much joy. It is a confirmation to me that my duty to each child has been met and has been a successful accomplishment. At heart, I am just another mother on a mission!!!
I have been back in Haiti now for a week. There were plenty of tasks awaiting me when I arrived home. And there is loads of construction on the way to a different FEJ compound, which will involve and hinge upon several of our volunteers. Next week I will share what everyone was able to accomplish while here in Haiti.
I wish everyone a good weekend!
